Biography

Phillip Bloomfield is a musician, composer, arranger and general lover of music who comes from Geelong, Victoria, Australia. He has a Bachelor of Music, sub-majoring in composition, with electives in sound design, studio production, sound recording and sound editing. Phil loves to create new compositions as well as breathe new life into music that has already been created. He also loves to play music, including the Bass and Classical Guitar but his real passion is in composing and arranging musical scores that excite and inspire.

Life for Phil has been a fusion of many different influences from Classical to Heavy Metal, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Funk and World Music, amongst others. He has performed live at various venues for the Heavy Metal band "Fearscape" both in Australia and New Zealand. This involved using a range of dynamics from desperately fast and complex rhythms to lyrical, layered motifs which required both energy and control. He has played the elegant sounds of Classical Guitar over the years in various settings. This breadth of experience has potential to create an exciting and unique blend of sounds in his compositional work. The collision of aggressive guitars with sonorous oboes is something Phil relishes as an exciting musical frontier.

Phil has also had extensive experience in the studio and knows the exacting requirements of studio-based recording. He has recorded 2 albums and an EP with the band "Fearscape" which have been critically acclaimed and has also worked with influential people in this area such as Jason Sherlock and Steve Rowe. Apart from playing live, Phil has also studied with people who have influenced and shaped his personal compositional style. He completed an industry-based music course at Ultimo Technical College, working with teachers such as Michael Brown and "Dragons" member Bruce Reid. Phil then went on to complete a Music Degree at the Western Sydney University, studying under lecturers such as Bruce Crossman and Diana Bloom. These experiences have been a constructive means of drawing together all of his knowledge, influences and experiences.
